The world is heading to its end. When we see such cases, we cry, uncontrollable tears shed from our eyes. In such a horrific incident, a 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped in the hospital when she was having some rest in the hospital’s seminar hall.
Dr. Moumita Debnath, who was 31 years old, was posted as a trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College, a state-run hospital that is almost 138 years old. On the night of August 9, she was resting in the hospital’s seminar hall, where she was barged in on by some monstrous individuals who gang-raped her.
At first, the principal and dean of the hospital tried to turn this incident into a suicide, due to the pressure on them by the local politicians. Her parents were made to wait for 3 hours before seeing their daughter’s body. When the father was allowed to see her, he immediately noted that this was not a suicide case, but a murder – a brutal, horrific, inhumane murder.
But due to the incident being revealed and going viral on social media, they were forced to do a post-mortem. And, the principal, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, resigned after this.
Her autopsy report revealed that she was raped, brutally. Her pelvic girdle was broken.
this is the pelvic girdle.
Her body was found with 150 grams of semen. Now, the surprising thing here is that a man can ejaculate an average of almost 6–8 grams of semen. It means she was gang raped by 15–18 men. All this happened in the seminar hall of the hospital. She also had approximately 135 bite marks on her body. She used to wear spectacles, which were found smashed into her eyes, causing her eyes to bleed. Her entire body was having several injuries and blood.
After this issue, authorities initially tried to suppress it. However, thanks to the internet and social media, people started raising their voices. Now, after almost 8 days, some progress is being made, and the case has been transferred to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation).
The Indian Medical Association, which has 400,000 active members, called for a 24-hour shutdown strike. They stated on X (formerly Twitter): “Doctors, especially women, are vulnerable to violence because of the nature of the profession. It is for the authorities to provide for the safety of doctors inside hospitals and campuses.”
31,000 cases of rape were reported in India in 2022 – these are the latest stats, as after that, the National Crime Records Bureau(NCRB) did not publish any data. 31,000 cases in a year equates to 84 cases per day. It’s important to note that these are only the reported cases; unreported cases are likely to be much higher than this.
