The Sindh High Court on Thursday granted seven-day protective pre-arrest bail to the husband of the main suspect in the Karsaz traffic accident.
The female suspect was arrested on Aug 19. According to the prosecution, Natasha Danish has been accused of recklessly driving a Toyota Land Cruiser, killing a 60-year-old man, Imran Asif, and his 22-year-old daughter, Amna. She has also been accused of wounding three others in an accident near Karsaz on the same day.
Initially, the police had registered a case against the female suspect under various provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which were all bailable. Later, Section 322, which is punishment for qatl-bis-sabab, was also incorporated in the FIR. This section is non-bailable.
The SHC directed the applicant to furnish a solvent surety of Rs 50,000 and surrender himself before Sept 4.
Danish Iqbal, husband of Natasha Danish, through his counsel, moved to the SHC and asserted that after the registration of the case and the arrest of the female suspect, he had also been named as a suspect during the course of the investigation.
The lawyer said that police had been raiding the suspect’s house in order to arrest him.
The counsel sought two weeks of protective bail to enable the applicant to approach the Investigation Officer and join the investigation.
After a preliminary hearing, a single-judge bench headed by Justice Muhammad Saleem Jesser said in his order: “Prima facie, without dilating upon the merits and demerits of this case, applicant Danish Iqbal, son of Iqbal Ali, is hereby granted protective pre-arrest bail in crime No. 229/2024, under sections 320, 337-G, 247, 247-PPC read with section 322 PPC, registered with PS Bahadurabad, Karachi for seven days subject to furnishing his solvent surety in the sum of Rs50,000 and PR bond in the like amount for the satisfaction of Nazir of this court.”
