Mark Zuckerberg is collaborating with Ray-ban again to launch meta smart glasses. It has many features like improved audio and cameras, over 150 different custom frame and lens combinations, and they’re light and comfortable. It also has Meta AI, the advanced conversational assistant.
Introduction:
Over the past few years, technological advancements have reached a peak to ensure a smooth and reliable human experience. Meta smart glasses stand out amongst many other tech smart gadgets. These smart glasses come with the feasibility of driving actions with your voice without having to use your phone the entire time. These are equipped with technology which facilitates capturing, recording, communication, and every feature which a phone provides. However, this too comes with its drawbacks. There are additional costs one may have to pay for wearing technology.
Drawbacks:
Health Concerns: The user has to focus on the digital screen closely while wearing smart glasses. Prolonged focus on the screen may cause blurred vision and severe headaches due to the harmful electromagnetic radiation. Psychological health may be triggered by changes in behavior observed due to constant exposure.
Safety Issues: Smart glasses help to navigate through traffic. However, this may appear fatal at times when cognitive suggestions interfere with what the technology advice. The user may get confused and between the two and can automatically end up in an accident or injury.
Violation of Privacy: Smart glasses are equipped with hidden cameras which enable the user to record or capture without anyone knowing. This may violate people’s privacy because they would not be alerted if anyone is secretly recording their activity without permission.
Hacking and Cyber Crime: The glasses may affect the user as well as the person it is being used for. Hackers can access personal information of the user through the glasses and blackmail him as well. On the other hand, the user can capture anyone’s activity and extract personal information to threaten them.
Accessibility: These high-tech glasses are not like the daily gadgets used. Their interface and operating method are completely different which is why it makes it a challenge for older generations to adhere to it. It may take a long time for everyone to learn the usage and come at the same pace as everyone else.
Cost: Not everyone will be able to access this smart technology because of its cost. People may not want to spend a heavy amount of money on glasses with features that are already available in their phones.
Battery life: Like phones, glasses cannot be put down to charge. Users find the need to wear them all day. Unfortunately, these glasses, with a low battery life, need to be charged every day in small intervals of time. Consequently, this may not appeal to the user because of the hindrance of charging the glasses every time.
Conclusion:
These drawbacks do not limit the users from buying them, but just aware them for better decision making. Everything comes with its pros and cons; it is we who choose what is right for us. This invention undoubtedly stuns us, but its disadvantages cannot be ignored. Therefore, all the pros and cons should be weighed according to the need before buying smart glasses.
