Balochistan continues to grapple with the devastating effects of heavy rains, as the impact of Cyclone ‘Asna’ is felt across the province. The districts of Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Khuzdar, Jhal Magsi, Sibi, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad, Lasbela, Loralai, and Bolan have all been severely affected by the disaster.
The provincial government has declared Jhal Magsi the most affected area. Heavy rains have disrupted mobile phone, internet, and electrical services across many districts, forcing authorities to rely on levies wireless systems to maintain communication in higher regions.
According to the government control room, hundreds of people are stranded in the open in Qila Abdullah and Qila Saifullah. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that since 1st July, 40 people, including 13 children, have died due to the heavy rains. An additional 15 individuals have been injured, including 11 children.
The rains have completely destroyed 558 homes and partially damaged 13,986 others, affecting a total of 109,903 people. Agricultural losses are significant, with 58,799 acres of crops destroyed by the heavy rains. Seven bridges on the national highway have also sustained damage.
Sindh is also affected by the cyclone, causing a rise in the water level of the Indus River, leading to flooding in the surrounding areas.
