In front of a UNRWA school shelter in Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp, Israeli forces carried out an airstrike that killed eight people, Anadolu Agency reports. The ongoing war between Israel and Gaza is causing serious implications. The attack on the bread distribution point reminds the world of the flour massacre.
What is flour massacre?
The flour massacre occurred in the Gaza Strip on 29 February 2024, when at least 118 Palestinians were killed and 760 injured after Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians who were seeking food from aid trucks on Al-Rashid Street in Gaza City. This incident was the deadliest mass casualty event in the Gaza Strip since the start of Israel’s operation during the Israel–Hamas war. The massacre took place a day after the World Food Programme reported that more than half a million Palestinians were at risk of famine in Gaza.
UK suspends some arms export licenses:
Yesterday, the UK halted certain arms sales to Israel, citing a “clear risk” that the equipment could be used in serious breaches of international law. Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced the suspension of 30 out of 350 arms export licenses to Israel, affecting items like parts for fighter jets, helicopters, and drones. An Israeli minister expressed disappointment, stating that the decision sent the “wrong message,” while Amnesty International UK criticized the suspension as being “too limited.”
