The Palestinian Authority has received a significant invitation to the upcoming BRICS summit, as revealed by Abdul Hafeez Nofal, the Palestinian ambassador in Moscow. According to Nofal, Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended an invitation to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to attend the summit scheduled for October 24, 2024, in Kazan, Russia.
Nofal highlighted the close relationship between Putin and Abbas, stating, “We received an invitation from President Putin to President Abbas, and he was invited to the upcoming BRICS summit.” He added that the two leaders are “good friends of each other and can meet any time.”
The ambassador also disclosed Palestine’s intentions regarding BRICS membership. “After our first participation in the BRICS summit, we will send a request to join this association,” Nofal explained. This move signifies Palestine’s desire to align itself more closely with the BRICS nations and potentially expand its international influence.
Furthermore, Nofal revealed a promising development for Palestine’s representation at the summit. “Putin promised Abbas that the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan, which is to be held in October 2024, will include a special session dedicated to Palestine,” he said. This dedicated session underscores the importance being placed on Palestinian issues within the BRICS forum.
