Iran is burdened with thousands of sanctions worldwide, mostly from the US and European Union. Since 2006, the US and EU have been implementing sanctions on Iran.
United States: The U.S. has issued over 1,500 individual sanctions related to Iran, targeting individuals, entities, financial institutions, and sectors like oil, banking, and shipping.
European Union: The EU has imposed around 200 sanctions on Iran, focusing on individuals and entities linked to Iran’s nuclear program and human rights abuses.
United Nations: Although many UN sanctions were lifted after the JCPOA, some sanctions remain in place, particularly related to arms and missile technologies.
Approximately, Iran is under 2,000 to 2,500 individual sanctions when considering the combined measures from the United States, the European Union, the United Nations, and other countries.
Despite all these sanctions, Iran is going to be the world’s 4th largest producer of solar energy with a capacity of up to 2,300 MW.
Currently, China is the world’s top solar power producer with a capacity of up to 14,000 MW. India is second, with a capacity of up to 4,300 MW, and the UAE is third, with a total capacity of up to 4,100 MW.
The current capacity limit of Iran is almost 700 MW.
