World’s one of the biggest company, Unilever which also operates in Pakistan, was fined 60 million rupees for deceptive marketing. Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) had been investigating the issue for the past 3 years; they issued an order 2 days ago in which it was stated that the Lifebuoy, a sidiary of Unilever is charged with a fine of 60 million rupees of fine for using deceptive marketing for sales.
A complaint about this issue was submitted by Reckitt Benckiser (RB), about some years ago. On investigation, CCP issued this order. The claims “100% guaranteed protection from germs”, “World’s No. 1 germ protection soap”, and “99.9% germ protection in 10 seconds.” The disclaimers about these claims were printed in tiny fonts and were hardly noticeable.
