The Supreme Court of Kenya has ordered the Kenyan government to take legal action against the police officers responsible for the death of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif, while ruling on the petition filed by his wife.
Kenyan High Court Judge Justice Stella Motoko has declared the firing of Kenyan police officers on a Pakistani journalist as a violation of human rights and illegal.
The court has ordered the government to take strict disciplinary action against those who fired at Arshad Sharif as per the law.
Justice Stella said that every person is equal before the constitution and law and has the right to live.
The judgment also said that there should be a thorough investigation into the killing of Arshad Sharif and the non-provision of information about the firing on him is a violation of the right to information.
The High Court sitting in Kajiado has also awarded 10 million shillings to the family of Arshad Sharif.
